Artist column [Miho Onodera]

Hello❕✨

Your favorite works from artists all over Japan

This is the " #fromartist " management office where you can find

Today, we have FROM ARTIST,

Introducing Miho Onodera's artist column!

——————————————

hello.

My name is Miho Onodera, a copperplate print artist.

I use animal motifs

I create copperplate prints of everyday scenes that catch my eye.

The process of copperplate engraving has remained almost unchanged since medieval Europe.

Even today, it takes a huge amount of time to look at a single print.

For example, if you just want to add white lines to the black parts of a picture,

Before I know it, I've spent more than 10 hours cutting the plate and making test prints.

I work on copperplate prints at night, so

With the print in hand, I spend my time repeatedly diving deep into the forest in the middle of the night.

In this modern age where information and time flow so quickly,

It is an art that goes the exact opposite way.

I get depressed sometimes because things aren't going as I expected.

However, this act of "taking time to face" is

I think it’s needed in today’s world.

We are literally continuing to work on the project steadily.

When I had a solo exhibition last year, I met more elderly people than I expected.

I was also surprised at how well received it was among foreign visitors.

At the time I had no idea why.

Perhaps in this world time flows differently than it does for busy modern people.

I thought later that maybe they were the people there.

Chisana's copperplate prints are not flashy or vibrant,

I would be happy if I could gently touch someone's heart.

Thank you for reading.

I would be happy to meet many people through my work.

[About the author]
Miho Onodera Born in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture/Currently living in Yokosuka

Using animal motifs, I express everyday scenes that catch my eye through copperplate prints and watercolors.

In particular, the production process for copperplate engraving has remained almost unchanged since medieval Europe, and even today it takes a huge amount of time to look at a single plate.

In today's world, where information and time flow at breakneck speed, art takes a completely opposite path and can be disheartening when things don't go as planned.
Rather, I continue to create works with the belief that this act of "taking the time to face something" is what is needed in the world today.
