アーティストインタビュー【垣花レイジ】 - FROM ARTIST

Artist interview [Kakibana Reiji]

Today, we spoke to Reiji Kakihana, an artist who is currently very active at FROM ARTIST.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule for this interview!

Reiji Kakihana , when did you become interested in art and started drawing?

As far back as I can remember, I was holding a pen. It's only been in the past six months that I've thought about doing it seriously.

You've loved drawing since childhood. Thank you for discovering FROM ARTIST, which started in earnest six months ago.

So please tell us about your current work style and how you arrived at it.

I'm often misunderstood because I'm a painter, but I'm really clumsy with my hands...But I want to turn my imagination into a work of art, so I layer the paint over and over again and gradually give it shape. It has become a style.

Reiji says that he is clumsy, but even so, the way he looks at himself and gives form to what's inside him is really cool.

Comparing yourself before and now, have you changed anything in your attitude or state of mind towards creating works?

In the past, I drew with a sense of mission. Right now, I just want to draw what I want to draw when I want to draw, and while it's important to receive feedback from others, I want to be able to be in demand for the pictures I draw, rather than writing what others want.

I want my paintings to be sought after...What wonderful words.

Reiji-san, do you have any particular preferences when producing?

Nothing in particular. I watch my favorite videos and draw, but I usually end up concentrating so much that I don't really get anything into my head.

So do you have a favorite color? Please tell me the reason!

It's orange! ! 🟠 Because it stands out!

Are there any paintings or works of art that you have seen that have influenced you or that you respect? Do you have a favorite title?

The last time I went to a place called the Yokoo Tadanori Museum in Kobe, my motivation to draw suddenly increased. All drawn by the same person, regardless of style! ? I was drawn to the free-spirited works.

Are there any expressions or themes you would like to try in the future?

I want to draw things that cannot be seen with the naked eye. I want to draw pictures that visually convey feelings, words, temperature, and smells.

Do you have any interests or hobbies other than art?

I'm doing dance. I think dance is also an art form, and it's fun because I often think in a similar way to when I'm drawing.

Please tell us your motto.

Leonardo da Vinci said, ``A beautiful body dies, but a work of art never dies.''

Lastly, please give a message to everyone viewing FROM ARTIST.

I would be happy if you could take a look at my Instagram and be interested in my works.

Thank you for taking the time to answer the interview.

FROM ARTIST is looking forward to seeing Reiji Kakihana's works in the future.
