Artist interview “Chizuru Yamamoto”

Today, we spoke to Chizuru Yamamoto, who has experience holding solo exhibitions focusing on abstract paintings.

Thank you for your cooperation in today's interview!

First of all, how did you start drawing?

When I was little, I was drawing pictures on the backs of flyers, and I was so happy that I was praised for them, so I stayed like that forever.

I've loved drawing since childhood.

When did you seriously start thinking about becoming an artist?

I've been drawing pictures and making things (pottery, etc.) for a long time, and I've always wanted to be someone who makes things, and that hasn't changed since I was a child.

It was only recently that I realized that I was a painter.

In your profile, you said that you worked at a company after graduating from a vocational school, but please tell us how you went from getting a job at a game company to your current career as an artist, mainly focusing on abstract paintings.

I majored in illustration at a vocational school, so I wanted to work as a creator, so I got a job making games.

While I was still at the company, I was involved in a variety of activities, including holding solo exhibitions of illustrations and traveling to Tokyo to study illustration.

The more I did this, the more I realized that [illustration] is important for explaining and expressing ideas and concepts.

It just didn't match my urge to draw. Illustrations are the only way I can think of to draw pictures as a job.

I had never thought about art and painting because they seemed like a vast and distant world. After taking a very long detour, I stripped it down and left only the important things, and it became an abstract painting.

Are there any artists who influenced you while establishing your own style? Also, what part influenced you?

I was inspired by the work of musician Kaho Nakamura. They encouraged me and encouraged me to feel free to express myself.

Also, the innate individuality and freedom of the cats I live with.

The thing that moved me the most when I saw the painting was Cezanne's Apples and Oranges that I saw at Orsay.

Please tell us about your current work style and how you arrived at it.

[I like drawing = I have to draw something (motif)]

The curse that had bound me was finally broken and I turned to abstract painting.

Before I start painting, I keep my mind completely blank, and while I'm working on it, I try to see what comes to mind.

I want to scoop it up.

If you grope and honestly choose from among the many branches, you will end up with your own painting.

I think you have various thoughts in mind when creating your current works.

Please tell us the highlights and charm of your own works and abstract paintings.

I want you to see it the way you want to see it.

I hope you can taste it as you feel it and get lost in the picture.

Where do you get your inspiration for your work?

When something moves your heart in everyday life, it turns into energy.

I no longer look around for motifs and hints for drawings. Let nice things stay nice.

Are there any expressions or themes you would like to try in the future?

I don't have a theme, but I want to get excited about the colors, touches, and composition.

If possible, I would like to draw a large piece.

Please also tell us about your private life! Do you have any interests or hobbies other than art?

Living with my family, dogs, and cats. Games, walks around the neighborhood. Alone time. coffee.

Thank you for speaking with us so far!

Lastly, please tell us your motto.

Love is what makes you good at things
