アーティストインタビュー「玉杓子(たまじゃくし)」 - FROM ARTIST

Artist interview “Tamajakushi”

Today, we spoke to the artist "Tamajakushi," who started his career in August 2022 with a focus on creating abstract art using acrylic paint.

Thank you for your cooperation in today's interview!

It seems that you studied fashion design when you were a student, but when did you start becoming interested in art?

My interest in art began when I entered university and became interested in conceptual art by artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Marina Abramovic, and Terence Coe.

Please tell us about any art works you have seen that have influenced you or that you respect.

There are many people I respect as painters and artists, but in terms of three-dimensional works, I admire Brancusi, Alexander Calder, Barbara Hepworth, etc.

In his paintings, he was influenced by artists such as Gerhard Richter, Paul Wunderlich, and Cy Twombly.

So far, I have had encounters with various artists and works...!

By the way, you said that you only recently started working as an artist. Was there any reason for you to start working as a writer?

I've always loved looking at art, but on my way home from seeing the Gerhard Richter exhibition held this year, I found myself buying art supplies and starting drawing.

It was such a shock that it touched my heart!

So please tell us about your current work style and how you arrived at it.

I don't have an academic background in art, so in the beginning I used spatulas and other tools instead of brushes to create my paintings, starting with the concept. Currently, I am creating works with a different approach, including not only abstract works but also works that mix figurative and abstract works.

You create works while trying out various art materials and expressions!

Please let me know if there are any techniques or art materials that you are good at or like.

It's an acrylic painting.

Where do you get your inspiration from when creating your works?

I like to take walks, and when I create my works, I use images of scenery that catch my eye and the color combinations of those scenery as the basis for my work.

Comparing yourself before and now, have you noticed any changes in your daily life or state of mind?

I feel like I see things more simply than I used to. My own mental capacity is limited, so if I want to spend more time doing something I like or am interested in, I think I've come to realize that I want to simplify everything else.

You have some experience in the fashion industry, but do you currently have any interests or hobbies other than art?

It's a clothing design. I love designing clothes as much as I love creating art, so if I have the chance, I would like to start an apparel brand.

Apparel brands look really interesting! I would definitely like to see the clothes made by Tamasako.

Returning to art-related questions, what kind of works do you plan to create in the future? Please let me know what kind of people you would like to see your work.

I would like to create a work that improves the abstract paintings I have created so far into something more iconic. I would like art collectors, art galleries, and many people who love art to see my work.

Thank you for joining us for this interview!

Lastly, please give a message to everyone who views FROM ARTIST.

Thank you for viewing the interview article.

On my Instagram account (@art_of_tamajakushi), I also post works other than those posted, so I would be happy if you could come and take a look.
