Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule for this interview!
It seems that you were interested in drawing and color combinations from an early age. Did you grow up in an environment where art was around you?
I agree. My mother used to work as a curator at a museum, so she often took me to museums when I was a child, and there were many art books and art-related books at home that I often looked at while playing. I did. I've loved drawing ever since I could remember, and I think I was influenced by the many people around me who enjoyed drawing, including my mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother.
My grandfather was deeply knowledgeable about art, having researched Ernest Fenollosa, an American philosopher and Oriental art historian who worked to protect Japanese art during the Meiji period, so I think my mother was also influenced by my parents.
What a wonderful environment! I admire it very much.
So, what was the most memorable piece of art you encountered in your childhood and why?
Monet's water lilies seen in an art book
I was fascinated by the beauty of the pond and the flourishing water lilies, which seemed to be soaked with sparkling sunlight, and especially by the expression of light.
Monet's Water Lilies is a masterpiece that remains in the hearts of many people.
_m_art, you also studied design, but are there any artists or designers that influenced you? What part influenced you?
mary blair
I was shocked to see how the world of Disney was expressed with beautiful colors, light and shadow, as if by magic. I started thinking that someday I would like to draw something that would make people's hearts flutter.
Mary Blair's works are certainly heartwarming with their use of color, facial expressions, and worldview, and you can almost hear the music just by touching them...I can understand the feeling that _m_art is fascinated by.
_m_art, you create abstract paintings using acrylic paints. Please tell us how you arrived at this style.
I used to draw all kinds of pictures and illustrations using various methods, including digital ones, but my sister used to often draw with acrylic paints, so I started doing acrylic paintings as well.
Abstract paintings are perfect for expressing my favorite color gradations and the fusion of colors and textures, and I feel that acrylic paints are a good fit for me because they allow me to repaint over and over again. I also like the fact that you can enjoy abstract paintings in any direction you like.
_m_art, I feel that you put various thoughts into your works based on your own experience with illness. Is there anything you keep in mind when creating your works?
I try to create colors and textures that make you excited, energized, and at peace when you look at them. I like beautiful colors that make me feel comfortable.
For me, the art I have in every room brightens up my mood, which tends to get dark due to anxiety during periods of illness, and makes me forget about thinking about my health ( My house is full of art, from the entrance to the hallway, the stairs, the living room, kitchen, and bedroom (lol), and I feel that art has the power to energize and give us hope.
Art gives me energy and hope....I feel exactly the same way! I can't explain in words what makes me do this, but it's deep and good.
So, _m_art, please let us know if you have any special techniques. Please also tell us why you are particular about using acrylic paints.
The works on display, ``How are you feeling today?'' and ``Be the person you want to be,'' are said to have unique textures, and are techniques that I personally like.
I freely mix various colors to create a base, then apply my favorite color or modeling paste on top of it and then shave off some parts before it dries.
I'm not particular about acrylic paint, but I happened to try it and found it to be easy to use.
Where do you get your inspiration for your work?
I am inspired by everything in life, including the sea, sky, plants, beautiful landscapes, music, books, fashion, cafes, and interior design.
Since I live near the ocean, I get inspiration from the patterns of seashells I find, and I also use them to add texture.
His attitude of always keeping his antenna up, absorbing information, and connecting it to his work is really cool!
Are there any expressions or themes you would like to try in the future, or anything you would like to convey through your works?
I also want to create works with textures and larger works that allow people to get more involved.
How did you draw this picture? What's the texture like? I want to create works that people will be interested in.
I want to create pictures that can enrich your soul just by having a single picture.
Do you have any interests or hobbies other than art?
Interior, general manufacturing (DIY, remake fashion), music, gardening, travel
I like making things in general, and used to make remade clothes and accessories, and regularly held exhibitions. We rented a large warehouse that had been used as a gallery, had friends arrange flowers, had live flute music, prepared homemade sweets and tea, wore dresses, and held Alice's tea party. I have very fond memories of holding an exhibition that felt like a party.
For me, art, interior design, and fashion are all connected, and everything in my life is a form of creative self-expression.
An exhibition packed with _m_art's favorite things that you can enjoy with your eyes, ears, and mouth....It's very nice. It's a wonderful experience that can't be replaced by anything, seeing everything you love right in front of you!
Finally, please tell us your motto.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life
Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
These are the words I tell myself to not be afraid to try new things and cherish each day with a fresh feeling.
