Today, we spoke to the artist " morimaru " who is currently very active at FROM ARTIST.
Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule for this interview!
morimaru, when did you become interested in art and started creating works?
I've always liked drawing since I was a child, but when I became a student, I hardly ever touched the art. In my late 20s, I started to think again, ``Is there anything I can do or be proud of?'' and started creating art.
morimaru, you create works using Posca markers. Please tell us about your current style of work and how you arrived at it.
I had tried acrylic painting, but it was expensive for me, and I couldn't master it at all technically (lol). I always thought that works that used paint were difficult to overcome. Posca markers are easily available, and I originally wanted to express myself by drawing colorful, retro architecture, so I'm working in my current style.
I think morimaru's unique view of the world using Posca markers has captivated many people, but after hearing his story, I also wanted to try morimaru's works using paint.
morimaru, you do not only work with Posca markers, but also fluid art. Please tell us about the appeal of fluid art!
I think what's interesting about fluid art is that you can't create the same pattern, so even if you think you've failed at first, you'll end up with a different flavor in the end.
morimaru, what do you usually get inspiration from?
I don't have a particular target, but I do find myself influenced by and refer to the works of people who use colorful colors. Sometimes new ideas are born from it, so I enjoy watching it rather than getting inspiration from it.
Many of morimaru's works use many colors, but do you have a favorite color? Please tell me the reason!
I especially like light blue, and often use blue and light blue in my works. Light blue is said to represent freedom, so I think it suits me as well.
It is very nice! In the future, I would like to pay attention to the light blue color that morimaru uses and touch his works!
So, comparing who you were then and what you are now, have you changed anything in your attitude or state of mind towards creating works?
As I continue to create, thankfully more and more people are looking at my work, so I think I'm starting to draw more complex and fantasy-like works than before.
Many of morimaru's works make you feel like you are watching a single story, so I'm looking forward to his future works!
Do you have any particular preferences when creating?
Basically, I draw when I want to, and I don't draw when I'm tired (lol) There were times when I was so convinced that I had to draw that I really hated it, and ended up not drawing for a long time.
You're always looking at yourself and your work.
morimaru, are there any paintings or works of art that you have seen that have influenced you or that you respect?
My answer is similar to the previous one, but I like seeing colorful works. I think that works that use a lot of color have more freedom of expression.
Are there any expressions or themes you would like to try in the future?
I would like to create works that collaborate with nature. Recently, I've been using Posca to create water-bleeding expressions, so I hope to be able to produce them well.
Lastly, please tell us your motto.
