1. Introduction - Enticed by the late autumn light
In November, the air in the city begins to slow down a little. The sun sets earlier, the light becomes paler, and the scenery takes on a softer tone. Strolling around on such an afternoon, your mind mysteriously becomes calm and at peace, and there are moments when you feel like taking a detour somewhere.
Late autumn is a special season for both art and its viewers. Light that is not too strong gently brings out the nuances hidden deep within the artwork. Today, we will talk about the relationship between late autumn and art as if we were taking a leisurely stroll.

2. The softness of the light and the "new face" of the artwork
When you stand in front of a landscape painting at twilight in an art museum, the impression you get is somewhat different from when you see it in summer. The colors are softer, the brushstrokes begin to breathe gently, and you feel the artist's presence just a little closer.
This may be because the light of late autumn changes the way we use our eyes.
Details that would be overlooked under strong light naturally emerge in soft light. When the light is subdued, it feels like the voice of the work itself becomes easier to hear.
[Work title] Colorful forest after the rain
[Artist name] Kasumiran
[Year of production] 2025
[Artwork orientation and size] Square, 18cm long x 18cm wide (approximately 2.7cm thick)
[Framed] None
Description of the work:
After the rain, there is a moment when the moist fallen leaves absorb the light and their colors appear deep and beautiful.
The small, sparkling raindrops made from transparent resin create a three-dimensional texture that evokes the warmth and tranquility of nature, making you want to touch them.
An autumn story can be created even in small spaces such as the entrance, living room, or around a desk, and it goes perfectly with wooden furniture, pottery, dried flowers, and natural Nordic interiors.
Recommended for those who love nature, want to live a life that is in tune with the seasons, and want to add a little healing to their space.
The inspiration for this work came from the color of fallen leaves I saw in the forest after the rain.
The wet leaves are not just dead leaves, but shine like jewels, and this work was created from the desire to capture that moment.

3. Stories Created by Shadows - Sculpture and Three-dimensional Time
Late autumn is also the season when the shadows of three-dimensional works are at their most beautiful.
The shadows that fall on the sculpture's surface are soft and long, and seem to gently tell the story of the layers of time that the work has passed through.
By blurring the outlines, the work is freed from the weight of the material and the very quality of its presence appears to change. It is as if the sculpture melts into time, inviting us into a quiet conversation.
The shadows do not simply reflect the shape of the artwork, but may also reflect the signs of the season, the temperature of the air, and even the viewer's state of mind.
[Work title] Heart-shaped lake in Hokkaido
[Artist name] Zensaku Yamakawa
[Year of production] 2024
[Orientation and size of artwork] Portrait 40cm x 30cm F6
[Framed] Yes
Description of the work:
A three-dimensional painting of Lake Toyoni in Erimo Town, Hokkaido. Lake Toyoni is located about 20km north of Cape Erimo, and is a lake with a circumference of about 1km surrounded by virgin forest. It is called Heart Lake because it looks heart-shaped from above. Even in all of Japan, Lake Toyoni is the only natural heart-shaped lake. The artwork shows the autumn leaves on the lake from above, showing the lake in full bloom. This hidden gem was voted number one in the nation for its breathtaking views from above. This three-dimensional clay art painting is made from durable polymer clay.

4. The moment the installation breathes
Installation works are extremely sensitive to even the slightest changes in light. When the designed relationship between light and space is slightly altered by the natural light of late autumn, the work begins to take on an entirely different appearance.
When the viewer brings in a faint light from outside, the depth of the space changes and the work's shadows extend at unexpected angles. These are "accidental changes" that the artist did not anticipate. But these changes are also the fun of art.
Viewing the installation in late autumn is a special experience, as if witnessing the artwork quietly breathing.
5. Late autumn art that gently illuminates the depths of your soul
When November arrives, all sorts of things from the past year suddenly come to mind. It's not winter yet, but the signs of the end of autumn give us a little time to reflect.
The art encountered during such seasons serves to illuminate the inner self of the viewer more than the artwork itself.
The shadows of the paintings, the coldness of the sculptures, and the stillness of the space gently bring to light feelings and indescribable emotions that one was not even aware of.
Perhaps the fainter the light, the more sensitive we become to the ``faint light'' within our hearts.
Appreciating art in late autumn is also a gentle stroll to discover it.
[Work title] Tomorrow will come.
[Artist name] risa takeda
[Year of production] 2025
[Artwork orientation and size] Landscape: 45.5cm x 65.2cm
[Framed] None
Description of the work:
A moment when the setting sun paints the sea golden. Red and yellow light shimmers on the waves, and the sky and sea blend quietly together. The details were painted with a brush, and the whole piece was painted with my fingers, feeling the texture of the white sand. The scene evokes the quiet, warm moment that comes at the end of the day, a gentle afterglow, and a touch of loneliness. It is a piece that adds a sense of comforting tranquility to your everyday life.

6. Conclusion - A walk to discover your own light
By the time you leave the museum, the city lights are already starting to fade. However, the light is connected to the lingering impression of the works you saw in the exhibition room, and it feels as if it is slowly seeping into your body.
What art illuminates is not the work itself, but the small shadow within the viewer.
Late autumn is the season when the outlines of these shadows become softly visible.
When the light fades, what does art illuminate?
Please take a leisurely walk to find the answer.
