Real name: Oscar Claude Monet

Claude Monet was born on November 14, 1840 in Paris, France.

Monet showed a talent for painting from an early age. When he was a teenager, he had his works displayed at local stationery stores and even sold them. There was a painter named Eugène Boudin who happened to see Monet's painting. Recognizing Monet's talent, Boudin taught him how to paint in oil and to paint natural scenes outdoors.

If you compare Monet's works with those of Boudin, who could be said to be Monet's teacher, you will see that they do have a similar atmosphere. ⬇︎

In 1859, Monet entered a private art school called the Académie Suisse. The school culture here valued individuality and freedom, rather than studying basic painting techniques such as drawing and copying, making it the perfect place for Monet. It is also the school that produced many famous painters such as Camille Pissarro, who is often called the ``father of Impressionism,'' and Paul Cézanne.

In 1871, Monet set up a studio in the town of Argenteuil, where he spent six years.

During this period, Monet held exhibitions with his friends.

The work that Monet exhibited at that exhibition was ``Impression: Sunrise,'' which can be said to be the beginning of the Impressionist movement. ⬇︎

Although the exhibition was held with great care, it was not well received by the artists of the time and was loudly booed. This was a time when religious paintings centered around portraits and paintings with mythological themes were still valued, so the paintings of Monet and others, which depicted vague everyday scenes, were not well received. .

However, as a result of this exhibition, painters with a style similar to Monet began to call themselves ``Impressionists''. In pursuit of a more free form of expression, they rewrote the common sense of Western art at the time.
