When you buy a painting or actually buy a canvas and want to paint on it, there are so many sizes that you don't know which one is right! Have you ever felt that way? ?

I think most of the copy paper we use on a daily basis is A4 or B5, but there are many more sizes used for paintings than that!

So this time, I will mainly explain in detail the sizes and types that are often used in paintings.

・Explanation of how to view campus size

Do you often see the sizes of paintings on display labeled as "M〇" or "S〇"?

It is similar to the size notation of printing paper such as A4 and B5, but it is slightly different.

In the case of printing paper, there are two types of paper with different sizes: A size and B size, and the maximum size of A size is divided into A0 and A1, etc. As the number increases, the size gets smaller.

However, canvases used in paintings are counted in the opposite way to the printing paper .

Size 0 is the smallest size, and the larger the number, the larger the size.

◎The number marked with 〇 represents the long side.

Depending on the number, the length of the long side is unified in advance.

The length of the long side is determined by the number, so if you want to know the number of the work, you can find out the number by comparing the length of the long side with the quick reference table!

◎Alphabets represent short stories

I think the alphabet is written before the number.

There are four types of alphabets: F, P, S, and M, each representing the length of the short side of the picture.

The length of the short side increases in the order of S>F>P>M. In the past, it was common practice to choose a canvas with the optimal proportions depending on the purpose, such as M for seascapes, F for portraits, etc., but now you can paint at any size you like without being tied to the alphabet. There are many people who draw .

◎What is SM size?

SM (thumbhole) size is about the size between size 1 and size 2, and is a different size from F, P, M, and S.

・Small size work that can be easily displayed

Paintings also come in a variety of sizes, from small pieces to large pieces.

If you live alone or in an apartment and are limited in the size of artwork you can display, we recommend postcard-sized or small-sized pieces of around 20 cm!

You can easily display it on the shelf in the entryway or on the desk, and it will brighten up your room.
