International Center / Miyagi Prefectural Museum of Art

It opened in 1981 as a place for exhibiting and collecting works, mainly modern and contemporary art, as well as for creation and presentation.

The collection includes a wide range of works, including not only painters associated with Miyagi Prefecture and Tohoku, but also works by overseas artists such as Kandinsky and Klee, as well as original illustrations for postwar Japanese picture books.

Special exhibitions held in the past have displayed works by popular artists such as Pompeii and Vermeer, and are designed to keep you interested no matter when you come.

The building was designed by Kunio Maekawa, a representative Japanese architect, and has a stately structure that blends in with the lush nature.

It's easily accessible from the nearest station and has ample parking, so if you're in Miyagi, definitely give it a try.
