Opened in 1985 as an art museum where people can connect with the local community and discover new value through art.

The collection is centered on modern art, and the temporary exhibitions held for a limited time are popular.

The building was designed by Kunio Maekawa, a native of Niigata Prefecture, and won the Building Industry Association Award (BCS Award) in 1986.

The design matches the local atmosphere of Niigata, and you can feel a sense of unity with the exhibition rooms that resonate with the works and the adjacent park, and the building is also worth seeing.

It was built and opened in 1997 within the ``Furusato Park of Flowers and Ruins''.

The museum's symbol, the Atrium, hosts installation exhibitions and museum concerts that make use of sound effects, making it a museum with a special charm. The collection consists of over 700 pieces of art connected to Niigata and art connected to modern mass culture.

Niigata Furusato Village / Yukiryosha Museum of Art


It was opened in 1994 by Kenichi Tsune as a place to interact with the works of famous writers and a place for artists to make presentations.

The permanent exhibition hall has an 86-tatami-mat exhibition room where you can appreciate the works in a calm atmosphere.

The new building has an exhibition room with a high ceiling and an area of ​​approximately 50 tsubo, where you can admire dynamic works measuring 3 meters in length. The Meissen room and Chagall room are the ones that attract attention. You can see wonderful things such as Meissen kilns and Chagall's stained glass in person.

Unusual for art museums, photography is allowed, so you can have fun and keep memories of your trip as a souvenir.

Toki Messe / Niigata Prefectural Bandaijima Museum of Art


In 2003, it opened as an urban art museum inside Toki Messe in Nagaoka City.

The collection actively collects and exhibits contemporary art, and includes approximately 6,000 pieces, including art from neighboring Asian countries. It is a branch of the Niigata Prefectural Museum of Modern Art, where you can appreciate excellent contemporary art. In the past, we have held the Taro Okamoto Exhibition and the Sanrio Exhibition, which were well received as they were easy to enjoy with children. The facility has an observation deck where you can see the entire city of Niigata. The museum is easily accessible, so please give it a try.

Kamiyakushido / Tomioka White Museum of Art, Minamiuonuma City


It was opened in 1990 at the foot of Mt. Hakkai to exhibit the works of Soichiro Tomioka, a native of Niigata.

The collection contains 570 items, including Tomioka's oil paintings ``White World Series'', ink paintings, and lithoglyphs. Works drawn with Tomio White, developed by Tomioka, bring out their beauty.

The exhibition room is a spacious space with a height of 5 meters and a ceiling of 8 meters, displaying dozens of works from sizes 60 to 150, making it an impressive space. In addition, you can enjoy the view from the lounge, which changes with the seasons and the world covered in snow in winter.

As the name "Tomio White" suggests, the building has a pure white exterior, and when you combine it with the snowy scenery, you might fall into the illusion of being in a white world.

Nagaoka / Niigata Museum of Modern Art


It was opened in 1993 in the Chiakigahara Furusato no Mori to spread the value of art to the Niigata area.

The museum collects and exhibits modern Japanese art and 19th century Western art, centering on the ``Daiko Collection'' created by local collectors. The museum is popular among families with children, as it has a wide variety of special exhibitions that only a prefectural art museum can offer, and has held exhibitions themed on Disney and Pixar in the past.

Urasa / Ikeda Memorial Museum of Art


It opened in 1998 in Yashiki-no-Mori Park, where you can see Mt. Hakkaisan and Mt. Komagatake.

The collection includes the Koizumi Yakumo Literature Library, one of Japan's leading libraries, and Japanese art by Aizu Yaichi and Japan's first female Western painter Eleonora Ragusa. We also place great emphasis on sports culture, with approximately 3,500 pieces from the collection of Baseball Hall of Famer Tsuneo Ikeda on display in the sports culture exhibition room.

Tokamachi / Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Contemporary Art Museum MonET


Opened in 2000 under Niigata Prefecture's "New Niigata Village Creation Plan."

The collection is lined with unique works of Japanese contemporary art, and the art can be viewed not only in the exhibition room but also outdoors. In addition, events are held depending on the season, and you can enjoy festivals where you can participate in performances and workshops.

The architecture was designed by Koji Hara, who designed Sapporo Dome, and Atelier Phi Architectural Institute, and the pond and open-air corridor create a pleasant space. You can feel the connection between the region and art at the special exhibitions that are held regularly, such as those with Echigo-Tsumari themes.
