3rd Tour of all 47 prefectures!
Japan-wide Art Tour in Kanagawa
[ART WORK no.8]
[Title] Rainbow Dragon
[Artist name] Gallery Pepakura
[Production year] 2023
[Orientation and size of work] Portrait Length 100cm x Width 80cm
[With or without frame] Yes
Description of the work:
Washi paper, an ancient Japanese tradition,
This "Rainbow Dragon" is made using paper craft techniques with Unryu paper made from mulberry.
It cannot be expressed in a flat painting.
The dynamic presence that only paper craft can provide.
A rising dragon dances like a rainbow across the sky
The concept is "a rainbow bridge connecting people through art."
The background panel is also made of Mino washi paper hand-dyed in Kyoto.
When you turn on the LED warm light installed inside the dragon body,
It transforms into a glowing dragon with the warmth that only Japanese paper can provide.
Paper crafts from 2021
This is the first time that I have created a work that is a culmination of my work to date.
I think of paper craft as three-dimensional painting.
The joy of making this three-dimensional art,
I teach workshops because I want to convey the amazing power of dynamism.
In the future, I hope that paper crafts will become a part of Japanese culture, just like paper cutting.
My dream is to make this art form more beloved by more people.
That is why I incorporated washi paper into my work.
I will continue to learn various techniques and challenge myself in the combination of Japanese culture and paper craft.
