アーティストインタビュー「まっつん」 - FROM ARTIST

Artist interview “Mattsun”

Today we spoke to Matsun, who is active as a radio personality and continues to create works despite having a hand disability.

Thank you for participating in today's interview!

FROM ARTIST has already featured many of your works, but how did you first become interested in art?

I have a YouTube channel, and the icon was a basketball wheelchair drawn using drawing software. At times like these, I also do live broadcasts, and a listener asked me, ``Why don't you try drawing?'' and that's when I started drawing.

A casual comment from a listener was the impetus for us to start our activities.

By the way, please tell us about any art works you have seen that have influenced you or that you respect.

It's Christian Lassen.

When did you start working as an artist?

From 2020.

It's been about 3 years since we started our activities!

Please tell us about your current work style and how you arrived at it.

I draw pictures on canvas using acrylic paints, mainly depicting flowers, birds, wind, and moon. I heard that Japanese people like it.

You take into account the preferences of the viewer and incorporate them into your work.

Please tell us about your unique characteristics and points in your work that you would like people to see.

I am a quadriplegic and have problems with not only my legs but also my hands, so the drawings are not very good, but I put a lot of effort into them, so I would like you to see the feelings hidden in the drawings.

Where do you usually get inspiration for your work?

It's your own intuition. Just draw what you want to draw.

Comparing yourself before and now, have you noticed any changes in your daily life or state of mind?

I felt that there was no failure in life, and I began to try anything.

There are many people who try anything, but when it comes to actually taking action, it is quite difficult!

Do you currently have any interests or hobbies other than art?

Since I am a radio personality, I am interested in ways to further improve my talk skills. As a hobby, I like to move my body, and I play a sport for people with disabilities called wheelchair twin basketball.

You have a deep knowledge of various genres! I look forward to working with you in the future.

Please let us know if there is anything you would like to try in the future or what you are currently trying.

The family's business was originally a lumber shop, but they were unable to keep up with the times and sales plummeted. I have debts and a large warehouse, so to make effective use of it, I paint art on the exterior walls, make the building stand out and attract customers, and my dream is to eventually run an art gallery.

Thank you for joining us for this interview!

Lastly, please give a message to everyone who views FROM ARTIST.

I have a disability in my hands, so I'm not very good at it, but I put my heart into each drawing. I would be grateful if my paintings could help you heal. The pictures I drew are also uploaded on Instagram. ⇒ https://www.instagram.com/orudetsu/ Thank you.
