アーティストインタビュー「Lu」 - FROM ARTIST

Artist interview “Lu”

Today, we spoke to the artist "Lu," who colors his works with colors that are in his own heart and expresses various worlds mainly with acrylic paints and abstract paintings .

Thank you for your cooperation in today's interview.

First of all, what made you want to become an artist?

I didn't originally want to be an artist, I just worked as an ordinary office worker.

One day, I had a moment to think about what I valued most in life, and my search for myself began.

While I was faced with various options and was confused, I met an artist.

While we were talking about my current situation and how ``I think paintings are wonderful both to look at and to draw,'' someone told me, ``If you have that feeling, you should definitely draw,'' so I bought art supplies that day. I remember shopping around for them.

Since that day, I have continued to ask questions to my heart and create thoughts on canvas.

I believe that an artist is someone who can influence people's thoughts and actions in some way through their paintings. I am working hard every day to become the best artist I can be.

Regarding the self-discovery mentioned in your profile, do you have any stories or reasons why you started?

In the past, there were times when I suddenly became mentally unstable.

I don't know why I became unstable or why I fell into such a state, but what is important to me, and what are my thoughts in my heart?

I spent many days asking myself questions.

I'm sure you've had a variety of experiences while searching for yourself, but if there's anything that particularly left an impression on you or that led to who you are today, please let me know.

I was left with an impression that I once ignored all the relationships around me and thought about why I was alive.

By fitting the parts that make up who I am today, such as my family, environment, money, and the country of Japan, into that ideal image, it was a good opportunity to disassemble myself and reconsider the balance and relationship between the parts and the body. .

After various encounters, please tell us about your current work style and how you arrived at it.

Currently, I mainly draw abstract paintings.

There is no fixed style, and I use brushes, paint brushes, painting knives, and my fingers to paint the colors that I feel at the moment onto the canvas.

From the time I started drawing, I had the theme of disclosing my heart, so I think I have been able to continue drawing without wavering from the beginning.

It seems like you create works that suit what you want to express without being tied to a single art medium!

So, is there anything you keep in mind when creating your works?

I try to remove the colors that my heart feels without worrying about color balance.

As a result, I of course end up creating works with dissonant colors, but these are also the colors in my heart, so I try to express them with confidence.

Where do you get your inspiration for your work?

I try not to overlook moments in my daily life that I want to express, such as the moment I close my eyes before going to bed, or the moment I encounter something that stirs my emotions.

I think most of us get inspired before we go to bed, and when we wake up, we often paint it on canvas.

It seems that you mainly create landscapes from your mind, but what kind of thoughts do you have in mind when creating them?

Number one, I'm thinking about creating pictures that will touch the viewer in some way and make them think.

First of all, I think that imaginary landscapes are a genre that has a low level of empathy.

This is because the world revolves around self-disclosure, and no two people have the same feelings.

However, I want to paint a picture in which there are parts of it that I feel, even if I don't empathize with it, even if I am part of it or other senses.

Are there any expressions or themes you would like to try in the future?

I would like to create art that mixes concrete and abstract.

As mentioned earlier, abstraction (particularly mental landscapes) is a genre that has little empathy, but I believe that by mixing concrete with it, it becomes an element that expands the imagination, making it easier to reach the heart of the viewer.

Do you have any interests or hobbies other than art?

I'm currently addicted to art, so I don't have time for anything else...

Thank you for answering so sincerely!

Lastly, please tell us your motto.

“You can never chase a rabbit that never sleeps”

These are lyrics from a song by a certain rapper, but when I heard them, they struck me deeply.

As someone standing on the same starting line, I feel that the day will come when we will see results if we keep moving, rather than saying that we will be rewarded for continuing our efforts.
