Self-introductions are also part of the work | Why successful artists communicate through words

In the art world, it is said that the most important thing is the appeal of the work itself.
However, when you actually look at many artists, you will notice a common thread: the more popular they are and the more fans they have, the more solid their "self-introductions" are.

Just as important as the artwork itself is the question of "who" creates it and what their intentions are.
Just by conveying the background, viewers can empathize more deeply and become much more interested in the work.

5. Words can also become your "artwork."

1. First, the basic structure of your self-introduction

When introducing yourself, it's important to convey your story succinctly without overthinking it.
Consider the following configuration:

■ Introduction: What kind of work/theme will you depict (focusing on emotions)?

■ Place of birth/base: Where were you born and where are you currently based?

■ Activity history: Briefly list exhibitions, awards, etc.

■ Thoughts: What do you want to convey through your work? What kind of people do you want to see it?

2. Easy-to-understand self-introductions using example sentences

"Hello, this is ____.
I create works based on (theme or style) and using (techniques).

I'm from XX prefecture and have been influenced a lot by (the local nature, culture, etc.).
Currently based in XX city, he mainly exhibits his work (in group exhibitions, solo exhibitions, etc.).

With all the experiences I have had (exhibitions, awards, etc.), I find it extremely rewarding to be able to share emotions with people through my work.

I want to deliver "art that is close to everyday life," something that will inspire small discoveries and bring comfort to the hearts of those who see it."

3. Writing Tips

・Use simple words that anyone can understand, rather than technical terms

・Focus on "why to draw" rather than "how to draw"

・The author's birthplace and upbringing are naturally incorporated into the background of the work's world.

→ For example: “I grew up near the sea, so I often use the theme of light reflection.”

- Ending with a message to those who will watch will make a lasting impression → Example: “I would be happy if my work could bring a gentle moment to someone’s day.”

4. Practical examples (short and long)

[Short version (approximately 180 characters)]

"Hello, this is ____.
Originally from Hokkaido, I am currently based in Tokyo.
I paint tranquil landscapes using acrylic paints, with themes of changing light and the colors of nature.
I want to deliver paintings that will suddenly soothe your heart in your daily life."

[Long version (approximately 300 characters)]

"Hello, this is ____.
I paint with acrylic paints, with themes of light and the flow of time that we feel in our daily lives.
I was born in Nagano Prefecture and grew up influenced by the colors of the mountains and the changing sky.
Currently based in Tokyo, he exhibits his work through group exhibitions and cafe displays.
In 2023, I held my first solo exhibition and found joy in connecting with people through my work.

I hope to create paintings that bring a calm and warm feeling to the viewer's daily life."

5. Words can also become your "artwork."

Once the brush is put down, another form of expression is born: words.
Your bio is another canvas that communicates what kind of artist you are.

Unpretentious and honest.

By putting into words "why you draw," you can convey the worldview of your work more deeply and it will resonate deeply with your fans.
