How to write a clear description of your work | Another art form depicted through words

The text introducing the work is not just a description.
It is another "space for expression" that is born after the artist puts down his brush.

Just like when painting a picture, words have rhythm and temperature.
What were your thoughts when you created it, what scenes did you see, and what feelings did you have?

By putting those "emotional movements" into words, the work will remain more deeply and quietly in the viewer's memory.

1. Basic structure of a clear introduction to a work

Title of work: "XXX"

This work was born from (theme or inspiration).
I express my ideas using (colors, shapes, techniques) based on (the moment, emotion, or event that made me want to draw it).
During the production process, I place great importance on (the things I pay particular attention to and the message I want to convey).

I would be happy if this work quietly touches the memories and emotions within each viewer.
I want to convey the atmosphere and emotions that I want people to feel when they decorate.

Based on this structure, if you keep the following five points in mind,
This will create an introduction that will stay in the reader's mind.

2. Key points to remember when writing

① Talk about the theme of your work through your "emotions . " Rather than explaining the theme of your work, talk about the emotions that made you want to draw it .
For example, sensory words such as "light," "memory," "time," "silence," and "wind" are effective.

→ For example: “I created this because I wanted to paint a picture of gentle afternoon light.”

② Include an idea No matter how small the event that sparks your idea, adding a "discovery from everyday life" will make it more realistic.

→ Example: “The colour of the sea I saw on my travels stayed in my mind and inspired me.”

3) The method of expression should convey sensations by explaining "how it looks" and "what kind of atmosphere it gives off," rather than explaining specialized techniques.

→ Example: “By layering transparent watercolors, I created a soft effect that seems to blur light.”

④ Summarize the concept in one sentence. Keep it simple so that the reader can understand it instantly.

→ Example: “This painting is based on the theme of ‘tranquility in the passing of time’.”

⑤ Ending with a message to the viewer or words that evoke a change in the space will leave a lasting impression.

→ Example: "I hope this painting brings a little peace to the viewer's daily life."

3. Example: "Quiet Light"

This piece was born from the moment I saw the morning light filtering through the wall.
The soft blue and white colors express the tranquility and warmth found in everyday life.
I left the brushstrokes in so that you could feel the flickering of light and the softness of the air.
I hope that when you display this in your room, it will bring you a sense of calm and make you want to take a deep breath.

4. Summary: Three principles for introducing your work effectively

① Talk about what inspired the work (background and emotions)
② Expressing colors and techniques intuitively (conveying the atmosphere)
3. Conclude with a question about how it will affect the hearts and lives of those who see it.

Putting your work into words is also an opportunity to reexamine your own expression.
"Why did you draw it?" "What kind of atmosphere do you want to convey?"
By putting that question into words, the outline of the work becomes clearer.

An art description is like a "letter" to the viewer.
Please try to convey the world of your work in a gentle and warm way.
