[Masaaki Toyokichi Profile]
Born in Saitama Prefecture in 1975, he graduated from Tokyo International University in 1997. He developed a passion for computers during his time at the university and joined Japan System Technology Co., Ltd. after graduation, working on systems development as a system engineer. As his visual field loss due to glaucoma progressed, he felt he had reached his limits as an engineer and retired. In 2010, he began studying under photographer Yukinori Tokoro. His glaucoma continued to progress, and since 2015, he has undergone four surgeries. He currently has a tube and plate in his left eye. As of 2022, he has lost most of his vision in that eye. Since undergoing surgery, he has begun creating the "MONOCLE VISION" series, expressing the "vision of the blind." Around the same time, he also began taking rehearsal portraits of "seven-finger pianist" Gohei Nishikawa. His primary equipment is the Sony α7III and RICOH GRIII. In August 2020, he appeared on an NHK Educational TV program as a glaucoma patient and photographer. His solo exhibition, "MONOCLE VISION," will be held in April 2022. Full member of the Glaucoma Friends Network.
