近くにいるということは、言葉や視線を交わさずとも、相手の気配を確かめる必要もなく一日が続いていくことです。この作品では、そうした「何も起きなかった時間」を、丸くなって眠る姿として画面に留めました。 白から生成りへと異なる布を重ね、継ぎ目や切りっぱなしの端を残した背景。中央の姿も小さな布片を繋ぎ、不揃いな手縫いで留めています。下部の縫い目もあえて間隔や向きを変えました。整った輪郭よりも、わずかなずれや縫い残しにこそ、時間の確かな痕跡が現れると考えているからです。 残したかったのは姿そのものではなく、互いに別の時間を過ごしながらも離れてはいなかった、確かめる必要さえなかった静かな時間です。素材と針目の重なりが、見る方の記憶と静かに共鳴することを願っています。
