水際を歩いていると、白い塊が点在していることがある。大型の魚の汚れた白い骨が広く巻き散らかされている。大体最後はカラスに骨をバラバラにされて点在しているのだ。その中を歩いていて足が止まった。全体がきれいに残っている姿が目に入った。 それを見た瞬間、私の頭の中の絵筆が忙しく動いた。線が連なれば面になり、それが曲線であれば丸みを帯び、そこに影をつければ厚みになり、さらに書き込めば重さを感じられる。光る部分を硬さの表現とし、へこみの影の中も描き分ける。 骨の下の影はその濃淡で地面との距離が測れる。光の乱反射は必須で、その姿を大きく変える。そこにそれは存在し、やがて風やにおいもするかもしれない。 もう明日は黒ずんで陥没しているかもしれない。少しばかりついた肉片はそれが生きていた証拠。生きて動いていた姿を思い浮かべながら、筆は止まらない。生命体は直線ではない。曲線からできている。絵を描くとそれを納得できる。 厚さ1.8cm 重さ0.2kg 一般的な油絵用の額であれば、紐をつけたままでも収まります。
