本作は、ルネ・マグリットの《ゴルコンダ》（1953年）へのオマージュであり、現代の高度資本主義社会に対する批評です。 マグリットが描いた「山高帽の男」は、20世紀半ばの中産階級の同調性を象徴していました。 本作において、その男たちは人工的な都市を離れ、開放感の象徴である「夏の海」の上へと舞台を移しています。 画面に広がるのは、私たちが切望してやまない「完璧な休日」の光景。 しかし、男たちはその楽園に身を置きながらも、社会的な記号である「スーツ」を脱ぎ捨てることができません。 彼らは海を愉しむのではなく、ただ無表情に浮遊している。 現代の労働環境は、テクノロジーの発展によって「いつでも、どこでも繋がれる自由」をもたらしましたが それは同時に、聖域であったはずの「休日」や「自然」のなかにまで、資本主義の論理が侵入してくることを意味します。 やっとの思いでたどり着いた海の青さの中で、私たちの脳裏をよぎる「明日の仕事」の影。 浮き輪を抱えたままの人もいます。 本作は、自由の最中にあってもなお、 見えない労働のシステムに囚われ、漂流し続ける現代人の不条理な精神のポートレートでもあります。 (顔のない人、顔が青りんごの人もいますので探してみてください)
