Description of the work:
A family of three humpback whales is migrating off the coast of Mount Fuji. They are energetic, jumping frequently, and producing a musical tune reminiscent of a zato (a monk) singing with a biwa on his back, hence the nickname "singing whale." They appear to be singing, creating waves and flying around joyously. This three-dimensional painting (last photo) was inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's "Under the Great Wave off Kanagawa." This modern 3D painting is made by shaping and polishing durable polymer clay and then decorating it with a hardened, glossy surface treatment.
