Description of the work:

"Rainbow Dragon" is made using paper craft techniques using Unryu paper made from kozo paper, a traditional Japanese paper.
The concept is "a rainbow bridge connecting people through art," with a rising dragon dancing like a rainbow across the sky, creating a sense of dynamism that is possible only with paper craft and not with flat paintings.

The background panel is also made of Mino washi paper hand-dyed in Kyoto. When the LED warm light installed inside the dragon is turned on, it transforms into a warm, glowing dragon that is unique to washi paper.

I started making paper crafts in 2021 and this work is the culmination of my work to date.
I think of paper craft as three-dimensional painting, and as a workshop instructor I want to convey the joy of creating this three-dimensional art and the incredible dynamism it creates.
My dream is to eventually make paper craft into an art form that is loved by many people as a part of Japanese culture, just like paper cutting.
That is why I have incorporated washi paper into my work, and I will continue to learn various techniques and take on the challenge of combining Japanese culture and paper craft.
