His identity was one of overwhelming strength. To prove his strength, he would sometimes hurt others. What remained was not the "glory of being strong" but "isolation from those around him". He realized that he needed to control his desire to "hold overwhelming power" with his "heart". But it was too late, and there was nothing he could do about it. The same goes for love.
