Description of the work:

Three-dimensional collage work.
I've never read Hegel's works, but I believe that there is a common thread running through the foundations of my work: Aufheben (sublation). I haven't consciously thought of this from the beginning, but I was reminded of something someone told me early on when I first started creating, and it brought it to my attention. In both my digital and physical works, I layer a variety of images and objects. Each object or image is independent, representing something different or based on concepts with opposing meanings. The colors and shapes are different, so they can be harmonious or opposing, and in many cases they are in opposition to one another, so they vary. The number of opposing elements doesn't necessarily have to be binary; there are also oppositions with three or more elements. Taro Okamoto called incorporating these opposing elements into his works antipodes.
He also incorporates images and objects with colors and meanings that reinforce or alleviate this conflict into his work. He incorporates these elements and sublimates them into a single work as a whole. By preparing and fusing multiple representational aspects within a single work, he achieves a sublation.
I had wanted to read Hegel when I was younger, but I put it aside. I might buy and read Hegel sometime soon.
